Sutherlin Police jailed a man for an alleged assault incident on Monday night.
An SPD report said at 10:40 p.m. the 27-year-old was called in for allegedly being intoxicated and high on mushrooms while becoming confrontational with neighbors in the 1000 block of West Central Avenue.
The man reportedly bit a victim in the ankle while he and another man were escorting the victim back to his property. The man was hit in an act of self-defense, causing his mouth to bleed. The suspect was reportedly attempting to charge at the victim and the second man when an officer arrived. The man was held at taser point until additional officers could arrive to assist.
He was eventually taken into custody and was transported to corrections. While enroute to corrections, the man removed his seatbelt, tried to slip his handcuffs and repeatedly hit his head and kicked the back of the patrol vehicle, causing further injury to his head.
He was charged with fourth-degree assault, and second-degree disorderly conduct. The man was detained on $8,750 bail.
