Sutherlin Police jailed a man for an alleged assault incident on Saturday night.

An SPD report said at 7:00 p.m. 36-year-old Elijah Gomez reportedly assaulted a victim, broke his ribs and tried to “choke him out”, at a motel in the 1300 block of West Central Avenue. While attempting to take Gomez into custody, he allegedly resisted, resulting in minor injuries to one officer.

Gomez was charged with second-degree assault, strangulation, assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest and a parole violation. He was detained without bail.
