A transient was jailed for third-degree theft and a warrant on Saturday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report released on Wednesday said a caller saw the 34-year-old take a can of sardines without paying for them at a store in the 5500 block of Northeast Stephens Street in the Winchester area.

The transient was found sitting across the street from the business and denied that he had entered the store. He refused to identify himself during contact with a deputy. He was transported to corrections and lodged as a John Doe. The transient was later identified, and it was found that he had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Multnomah County. After arraignment, the man remained detained on $2,000 bail.
