A Washington State man was jailed for an alleged trespassing incident on Wednesday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 3:30 p.m. the 31-year-old allegedly walked a piece of Caterpillar equipment down the side of Highway 38 near milepost 22 in the Elkton area, from his easement before turning town a private driveway. The man then reportedly proceeded through two gates to gain access to his logging operation.
The man allegedly crossed through private property which he had been told by both the owners and Douglas Electric Cooperative he was not permitted to do. The man also reportedly damaged a culvert at the base of the driveway which will need to be replaced. The damage estimate is over $1,000.
The man admitted to the incident and was taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass and was detained without bail. The man was released on Thursday morning.
