Roseburg Police jailed a man on multiple charges after contacting him early Thursday.
An RPD report said at 12:05 a.m. 41-year-old Kirk Opheim was located after hours at Riverside Park North in the 400 block of Southeast Spruce Street. Opheim was reportedly confrontational with officers and when he got up to leave, officers allegedly observed a bindle with a residual amount of suspected methamphetamine inside.
Opheim was detained and provided the name of Jonathan Guddal. After he was taken into custody, the suspect was reportedly found to be in possession of a spring assisted knife and said that he was a felon. Opheim was transported to corrections to be booked and released for unlawful possession of meth. At the time of the initial contact, officers were unable to confirm that he was a convicted felon. The man gave some indications that he was not being honest about his identity. At corrections, he was again asked his identity and was adamant that his name was Guddal. He was fingerprinted and identified as Kirk Opheim and had numerous warrants for his arrest. Opheim was a registered sex offender and was out of compliance.
The man was charged with being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon, giving false information to a police officer, failure to report as a sex offender, unlawful possession of meth and for several warrants. Opheim was detained on $80,000 bail.
