On Wednesday, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation at the weekly business meeting, calling upon all residents to celebrate and honor veterans on Veterans Day and attend the 69th annual Douglas County Veterans Day Parade.
Commissioner Tim Freeman presented proclamation certificates to a long list of U.S. military veterans, veteran service and support groups and military family members in attendance.
Douglas County Veterans Forum and Douglas County Veterans Advisory Committee member Jim Little said, “I think Douglas County should be a model and inspiration for the rest of the nation on how to honor veterans”. Little said, “Just as each of us veterans had each other’s backs in the service, we know that Douglas County has our back”.
The local Veterans Day parade will take place in downtown Roseburg on Monday, November 11th, beginning at 11:00 a.m. It has been held every year since 1955 and has earned the title oh, “Oregon’s Greatest Veterans Day Parade”. The parade will follow the traditional route through downtown Roseburg, starting on the corner of Northeast Fowler Street and Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard, turning left onto Northeast Jackson Street which becomes Southeast Jackson Street, turning left onto Southeast Lane Avenue, left onto Southeast Main Street, right onto Southeast Douglas Avenue and concluding in front of the Douglas County Courthouse.
