Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a transient following an elude incident on Thursday night.
A DCSO report said at 10:15 p.m. a deputy was traveling into the Winston city limits on Highway 42 near Brockway Road. He observed a motorcycle coming towards him at a high rate of speed and clocked it at 94 miles per hour The deputy turned around and attempted to make a traffic stop near the Tenmile Store. The motorcycle did not yield, and accelerated, passing vehicles on the left.
Deputies pursued the motorcycle until the Coos County line, where they terminated the pursuit, as they could no longer see the motorcycle. While on another call, an anonymous caller reported seeing what he thought was the same motorcycle parked on Hard Cash Lane in Camas Valley.
Winston officers and a deputy drove to the location where they found the motorcycle. K9 Nike was used to conduct a track, leading deputies to the 28-year-old. The man was still wearing his leather and had his helmet in his hands. The man admitted to eluding deputies, The suspect was valid, had no warrants, or any other reasons why he should run. The man claimed to not have known how fast he was going and thought he could get away.
He was charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle and reckless driving. The man was detained without bail.
