Officials are issuing responses to the June revenue forecast for the state of Oregon, which was released Wednesday morning.
Governor Tina Kotek said, “Oregon’s economy continues to be stable and productive. We have made meaningful progress on issues of top concern to Oregonians and worked to move our economy in the right direction”. Kotek said, “I look forward to continuing to partner with the legislature to focus on meeting people’s needs in every part of the state, from housing to safe schools to behavioral health services”.
House Republican Leader Jeff Helfrich said, “The projected kicker provides welcomed relief for families struggling due to inflation and high prices”. Helfrich said, “Republicans protect the kicker because we believe Oregonians pay too much in taxes, and people should keep more of what they earn”.
Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham said the forecast indicates, despite big surpluses, significant economic challenges are ahead due to stagnant growth and high inflation. Bonham said adopting a more disciplined approach to the state’s finances would help lessen the burden on taxpayers and improve economic stability.
