DEPUTIES JAIL MAN FOR FELONY STRANGULATION CHARGE

March 18, 2024 10:10 a.m.

Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man for a felony charge of strangulation on Saturday afternoon.

A DCSO report said at 1:50 p.m. the 40-year-old was called in for an alleged altercation between himself and a victim in the 9000 block of Buckhorn Road in the Dixonville area.  The man told law enforcement that the victim tried to hit him with a pole, and he put her in a chokehold. The man only requested a call and reported that the victim left. As a deputy attempted to talk to the man about the disturbance and the choke hold, he downplayed it and said he didn’t want the deputy to talk to the victim, without him being present.

The deputy was able to track down the victim in Idleyld Park. She said the suspect had put her in a choke hold several times. However, she said she didn’t call or want to pursue charges as she didn’t want the man in trouble. The victim showed the deputy photos she had taken of her neck, and it did show redness and was consistent with strangulation.

The deputy informed the victim that it was a mandatory arrest and that the man would be arrested. About an hour later, the suspect was contacted and taken into custody.

The man was detained without bail.
