The Early Literacy Educator Prep Council has released initial recommendations to revise educator prep program standards for literacy instruction.
A release from Governor Tina Kotek’s Office said the recommendations are now open for feedback until February 20th.
Kotek said, “I’m grateful for the fantastic work members of this council have done over the last few months to start the process of revising these program standards”. Kotek said, “As part of my Early Literacy Success Initiative, this council is part of a comprehensive effort to improve student literacy rates. Before these recommendations are a final product of the Council, we welcome further feedback from educator preparation programs across the state whose voices are critical to implement these recommendations and all Oregonians who want their voices heard during this process”.
Kotek established the council through an executive order in May of last year to strengthen the preparation of teachers and school administrators to instruct elementary students on reading and writing.
