Oregon House Republicans introduced legislation Thursday to end Measure 110.
A release from the Oregon House Republican Caucus said the bill takes bold action to end the measure as it is now known in order to restore accountability and provide pathways for treatment for addicts so they can become healthy, productive members of society.
The bill classifies possession of deadly drugs like fentanyl, heroin and meth as a Class A Misdemeanor. It mandates treatment to avoid jail time, bans public use, and requires evaluation and treatment as part of probation for certain drug and property crimes. The legislation requires prison sentences for drug dealers and manufacturers with multiple convictions and increases the penalties for drug dealers who sell drugs that result in the death of a person.
The chief sponsors of the bill are Representative Rick Lewis of Silverton, Republican House Leader Jeff Helfrich of Hood River, and representatives Tracy Cramer of Gervais, Kevin Mannix of Salem, Ed Diehl of Stayton and Christine Goodwin of Canyonville.
