WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY/WINTER STORM WARNING FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 10:00 p.m. Thursday while a Winter Storm Warning is in place from 10:00 p.m. Thursday through 10:00 p.m. Friday for mountain areas in southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow and blowing snow is expected.

The Advisory and the Warning are for the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, Crescent Lake and Howard Prairie. It applies to highways 66, 140, 62, 138, 230 and 58. It does not include Interstate 5 at the Siskiyou Summit.

For the Advisory, additional snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches is expected. Winds will gust to around 30 miles per hour but locally up to 60 miles per hour over higher exposed terrain.

For the Warning, heavy snow accumulations of 12 to 25 inches are forecast with windy conditions continuing.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause tree damage.
