On Tuesday, the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation awarded 83 charities a total of $817,330 for its fall round of giving.

The presentation occurred at the Seven Feathers Convention Center in Canyonville. The non-profits that received awards are located in Douglas, Coos, Deschutes, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Lane counties.

Foundation Director Carma Mornarich said, “The Awards presentation is always an exciting time for everyone at the Foundation”. Mornarich said, “The beginning of the year holds promise and we react to that by making resolutions, by reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of the previous year, and by assigning our energies to the positives in life. I think if ever there were a group of people who had positive determination, it’s this group”. Mornarich said, “The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation supports, admires, and is proud of the work that is being done in our communities”.

The foundation awarded $99,700 to 10 non-profits in Douglas County. Recipients included:

*The FISH of Roseburg received $15,000 to purchase food pantry items that will be delivered to clients at their home in partnership with Door Dash

*The Douglas County Library Association was awarded $12,000 to purchase books for young readers through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and Ready Readers programs serving children from birth to second grade

*NeighborWorks Umpqua received $10,200 to purchase plastic borders and rubber mulch to refurbish their playground at Stagecoach low-income apartments in Canyonville

The CCUIF was founded in 1997 and began its philanthropic activity in 1998. The total giving the foundation has awarded since its beginnings is over $24 million. Grants are awarded semi-annually in June and January.
