On Monday, detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team arrested a Roseburg man after observing a suspected drug deal in progress.

Lieutenant Rick McArthur said detectives saw two persons meet at an unusual location on the side of the road in the 1400 block of Roberts Mountain Road in Green. McArthur said aided by a deputy from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, detectives contacted the individuals to investigate the suspicious activity.

A DINT release said one of the persons contacted was 43-year old Jeremy Ray Hawkins. Hawkins was allegedly found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. McArthur said a subsequent search of Hawkin’s vehicle reportedly revealed a half found of suspected methamphetamine, 8.2 grams of suspected heroin, a small amount of suspected fentanyl, scales, packaging, and other drug paraphernalia. Two handguns were also allegedly found hidden inside the vehicle with the controlled substances.

McArthur said Hawkins is a prior convicted felon and it is illegal for him to possess firearms.

Hawkins was taken to jail and detained on eight counts. He was charged with unlawful possession, unlawful delivery and unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, unlawful possession and unlawful delivery of heroin, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of unlawful possession of a concealed firearm. Hawkins was detailed on $75,000 bail.

McArthur said DINT arrested Hawkins once before. In December of 2021, DINT detectives initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle he was driving near the intersection of Northwest Stewart Parkway and Northwest Edenbower Boulevard in Roseburg. During that incident, Hawkins was allegedly found to be in possession of approximately one pound of suspected methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials and a firearm. McArthur said that case is still pending in the court system.
