GOFUNDME UNDERWAY TO HELP CRITICALLY INJURED TEEN

A GoFundMe campaign is underway to help a critically injured Glide area teen who was a victim when his vehicle was struck by a suspected impaired driver during a traffic stop on October 26th.

18-year old Kelden Ainslie was a westbound motorist on Highway 138E about halfway between Roseburg and Glide when he was pulled over by an Oregon State Police trooper for a traffic violation at about 7:30 a.m.

An OSP report said during the stop, an eastbound motorist crossed multiple lanes of travel and crashed head-on into the stopped vehicle. The trooper suffered only minor injuries as did the suspect. All three were taken to CHI Mercy Medical Center to be evaluated.

Kelden’s father Jason Ainslie told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that his son is currently in critical condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield. Kelden went back on a ventilator after an operation on Monday. He remains in a coma. Kelden has already endured multiple surgeries since the wreck. He has numerous facial fractures from being hit. Jason Ainslie said Kelden’s recovery is expected to take 2 years or more.

Jason Ainslie said the trooper deserves a commendation for his actions after the wreck. He said the man ran to Kelden’s aid, ignoring his own injuries. The trooper pulled the victim out of the vehicle and performed CPR on the teen, which the father says is why Kelden is still alive today.

Kelden graduated in the 2023 class at Glide High School with a scholarship and achievement awards.

Captain Kyle Kennedy of Oregon State Police said charges against the driver who caused the crash are pending the completion of the investigation, which he said is not uncommon.

The GoFundMe has a goal of raising $100,000 to help with medical expenses. As of Tuesday afternoon, it had raised $6,140. Donations can be made by going to: https://www.gofundme.com/f/to-help-kelden-ainslies-surgery-and-recovery
