Mop up continues on the Thunder Mountain Fire, about nine miles southeast of Glide.

Douglas Forest Protective Association Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the fire was first reported Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m. and was initially estimated to be between two and three acres, burning in slash and timber.

Pope said firefighters worked aggressively through the night Wednesday and had the forward spread of the fire knocked down and 100 percent trailed and plumbed by 12:00 a.m. Thursday.

Mop up efforts on the fire began Thursday morning. It is now confirmed to be 10.5 acres. Pope said crews will continue for several days until the area is cleared and will then perform heat and smoke checks for several days thereafter. The Thunder Mountain Fire is currently under investigation.
