A Douglas County Forester has recently been recognized at the Society of American Foresters 2026 Annual Convention in Tacoma, Washington as the District 2 Oregon Presidential Field Forester.
Information from SAF said Whitney Henneman was recognized for her excellence in “the application of forestry on the ground using sound, scientific methods, and adaptive management strategies.” Henneman’s career began in California, where she cruised timber for Sierra Pacific Industries and worked in reforestation for Roseburg Forest Products. Henneman then came to Oregon where she worked as a log buyer for C&D Lumber and forester for Silver Butte Timber Company. Currently Henneman is a forester/co-owner of True North Natural Resources Consulting. Henneman is a board member for both the Coos Forest Protective Association and the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Southwest Fire Protection District.
Henneman supplements this hands-on career with extensive volunteer work. She has held several leadership positions in the Umpqua Chapter of Oregon SAF, helped plan the 2023 Oregon SAF Annual meeting, has led multiple education and outreach events, and volunteered for many others. She also participates in Oregon Women in Timber.
