Riddle Elementary School remains closed through Friday, September 11th.
A district social media post said they are continuing to address bat activity in the building and take preventative measures to improve the building for safety. The district is hopeful that students will be able to return to classes next Monday, September 14th.
The post said, “We understand that an unexpected school closure creates real challenges for families, and we are grateful for your patience and support”
The district said it is continuing to consult with the Douglas Public Health Network, Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as needed.
They are also working with a state-preferred licensed bat specialist on what is called a “humane exclusion process” that allowed the bats to safely leave while preventing them from returning. This work includes identifying and sealing potential entry points.
The district said it is also developing plans to support continued learning in case the closure needs to extend beyond Monday.
