August 9, 2026 4:00 p.m.

The Castle Fire remains at 3,612 acres and 67 percent contained as of midday Sunday.

It is burning 23 miles Northeast of Tiller with 580 personnel working at the incident.

Crews continue to strengthen and improve containment lines, mop up areas of heat, and conduct suppression repair where conditions allow.

An update from the F.D.N.Y incident management team said temperatures will cool slightly but will still remain hot and dry. Highs will range from the mid 90’s in valleys to the mid 80’s at the ridges. Conditions will continue to gradually cool with slightly improved humidity as this week progresses. Fuels remain hot and dry.

The expanded closure area in the Umpqua National Forest remains in effect in order to protect the public and provide a safe environment for firefighters. All National Forest System lands, roads and trails are closed to the public within the closure area. This includes about a dozen recreation areas.
