A pickup driver was injured after his vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck on Interstate Five Sunday night.

An Oregon State Police report said just after 3:20 p.m. troopers were dispatched to the wreck in the southbound lanes of the freeway, near milepost 92, approximately six miles south of Canyonville. Both vehicles were in the slow lane. The driver of the pickup, a Springfield man, had his cruise control set and was traveling faster than the semi. The report said the driver started to fall asleep, and his vehicle hit the rear of the semi, causing heavy front-end damage to the pickup.

The motorist received serious injuries and was flown to a Medford area hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup had a dog with him who jumped out and ran into the trees west of the freeway. The pickup was towed from the crash scene. The semi was able to be driven from the scene.
