The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory which is in effect until further notice for eastern Douglas County.

The Castle Fire and wildfires to the north combined with northerly winds will cause air quality levels to lower through the next few days.

DEQ said smoke levels will change over the next few days due to varying wind direction and fire activity. Some improvement is expected towards the end of the week. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and those who are pregnant.

To protect their health, residents should:

*Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality

*Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality

*People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while the smoke levels are high.

*Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems.
