The Oregon State University Extension Service will have a workshop about growing Christmas Trees on September 10th.

An Extension release said tis the season to start thinking about growing Christmas trees. Oregon is a major leader in the Christmas tree sector. In 2023, the last year federal data was collected, Oregon sold 3.17 million Christmas trees, ranking first nationally and contributing $118 million to the state’s economy.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. join the OSU Extension Forestry and Natural Resources Program for a practical workshop about getting started as a small-scale Christmas tree farm grower. Participants will learn the fundamentals of establishing and managing healthy, market ready trees using regionally appropriate species and production techniques. Topics will include site selection, soil preparation, species choice, planting techniques, weed and pest management, and other environmentally friendly practices.

The release said the workshop is perfect for anyone managing a woodland property in southern Oregon who is looking for information on how to get started as a Christmas tree farmer. This workshop is $5 per person and registration closes on September 8th.
