The Umpqua National Forest has expanded the Castle Fire closure area, effective Friday night.

A UNF update said the expanded closure order is necessary to protect the public and provide a safe environment for firefighters. It applies to all lands, roads and trails inside the closure area.

Roads impacted by this closure include Forest System Roads 28, 27, and 2781.

These popular recreation areas are now closed:

• South Umpqua Falls Day Use Area
• South Umpqua Falls Campground
• Buckhead Campground
• Camp Comfort Campground
• Castle Creek Trailhead
• Beaver Swamp Trailhead
• Lakes Trailhead
• Fish Lake Trailhead
• Skimmerhorn Trailhead
• Fish Lake
• Whitehorse Meadows Trailhead
• Acker Divide Trailhead
• Happy Camp Trailhead
