The Umpqua Valley Arts Association Board of Directors has appointed Angela Marx as executive director, effective Monday July 13th, following a competitive recruitment process that included candidates from both inside and outside the organization.
A UVA release said Marx served as interim executive director during a significant period of transition for the organization, successfully leading staff and overseeing operations through the 2026 Summer Arts Festival. The board cited her professionalism, thoughtful leadership, institutional knowledge and commitment to Umpqua Valley Arts’ mission as key factors in its unanimous decision. The board also recognized her entrepreneurial mindset and extensive experience in financial and operational management as qualities that will serve the organization well in its next chapter.
A joint statement from the board said, “Angela has earned the confidence of the Board through her leadership, integrity and ability to guide the organization during a pivotal time”. The statement continued, “Her dedication to our mission, her collaborative approach, and her vision for the future makes her exceptionally well suited to lead Umpqua Valley Arts”.
The release said before joining Umpqua Valley Arts in event management in 2025, Marx served as Director of Health and Wellness at the YMCA of Douglas County, where she worked for 19 years. During her tenure she led staff and volunteers, managed budgets, developed community partnerships, and oversaw programs serving diverse populations throughout the county.
As executive director, Marx will oversee the organization’s strategic direction, fundraising, financial management, community partnerships, educational programming, exhibitions, membership initiatives, and the continued growth of the Summer Arts Festival.
Founded in 1971, Umpqua Valley Arts is a nonprofit community arts center dedicated to enriching the cultural life of Douglas County through exhibitions, arts education, public programming and community events.
