DFPA DEALS WITH VEHICLE FIRE ON FREEWAY NEAR AZALEA

July 24, 2026 3:50 a.m.  

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies dealt with a vehicle fire on Interstate 5 in the Azalea area on Thursday afternoon.

A DFPA post said just after 1:00 p.m. the agency was joined by the Riddle Fire Protection District, Canyonville South Umpqua Fire Department Azalea Rural Fire Department and Oregon State Police in being dispatched to the fire next to the sound bound lanes of the freeway near milepost 88.

Upon DFPA’s arrival, rural firefighters had the forward spread of the fire knocked down. Two DFPA engines and overhead command were engaged on the scene, conducting mop up operations. All additional responding resources were cancelled. By just after 1:45 p.m. mop up was complete and DFPA was released from the scene.
