The City of Roseburg Historical Resource Review Commission will review a proposal to put a new gas station on a portion of the former Rite Aid property at 444 Southeast Stephens Street, downtown.
Notes from staff to the commission said architect Scott McDonald is working on behalf of the property owner, Sohail Khan, to open a new gas station by remodeling the former Rite Aid into leasable commercial space, to include a convenience store, and construct a new gas pump canopy and trash enclosure. The gas pumps would be located east of the building adjacent to Southeast Stephens Street.
The commission will meet on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the city council chambers on Southeast Douglas Avenue, Community Development Director Stuart Cowie said the HRRC is only reviewing criteria that apply because of the building being located within the Downtown Historic District. Cowie said after the HRRC review, the site review application will go through the rest of the normal permit review process. That means it will be routed to the Public Works Department, RUSA, and the fire marshal. Cowie said if the Site Review is approved, then the applicant can move on to the Douglas County Building Department to obtain a building permit.
