DFPA LIVE FIRE TRAINING CONTINUES

July 8, 2026 5:30 a.m.

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association are continuing live fire training with exercises continuing through next week, weather and operational workload permitting.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said smoke may be visible between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. in these training areas through at least Friday:

*The 4000 block of North Bank Road, east of Roseburg

*The 2900 block of Metz Hill Road in the Oakland area

*The 4400 block of Gazley Road in the Myrtle Creek area

Pope said the public may see smoke and fire activity during training hours as the training is an essential part of preparing firefighters for wildfire response.

Pope said live fire training builds critical skills, strengthens teamwork, and ensures that crews are ready to safely and effectively protect the forests, lives and property of the Douglas District.
