Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed one person and cited another person, following a disturbance on Saturday afternoon.
A DCSO report said at 1:25 p.m. a deputy responded to the incident with a possible shot being fired, in the 5700 block of Northeast Stephens Street, in the Winchester area. The deputy contacted a 58-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man inside their trailer. The woman, identified as Monica Morgan, admitted to firing a single round out their rear window. The window faced the North Umpqua River, and people were swimming in the area. No one was injured by the stray round.
The man was sleeping on the couch and woke up to the gun shot. He told the deputy that he believed the woman was trying to kill him, though he never witnessed Morgan with the gun. The woman allowed the deputy to go into the trailer and retrieve two unlocked firearms. Morgan was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, and recklessly endangering another person. She was detained without bail.
The man was a convicted felon and was cited and released for two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.
