Roseburg Police jailed a woman for two incidents on Tuesday morning.
An RPD report said at 9:30 a.m. officers responded to the Department of Human Services in the 700 block of West Harvard Avenue after a called said a woman had intentionally crashed her vehicle into the building. Upon arrival, officers noticed that 26-year-old Melyah Smith was showing signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Smith reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She was taken into custody without issue. At the jail she provided a blood alcohol level of 0.00 percent and provided a urine sample.
Shortly after 10:35 a.m. officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Sunshine Road after receiving a report that Smith’s daughter was locked in a bedroom. Officers were able to gain entry into the bedroom where they found the child in good health and uninjured. After an investigation, officers learned that Smith had locked her daughter in the bedroom the night before and left without returning. A friend had become concerned and reported the incident. Child Welfare services were contacted and took the child into protective custody.
For the two incidents. Smith was charged with DUII-controlled substance, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree child neglect. Bail was set at $6,250.
