In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:
Music on the Half Shell has announced the summer concert lineup for its 34th season.
Founded in 1992, organizers say the series has grown to become one of the premiere summer music events in the Pacific Northwest. Concerts are held Tuesday evenings at the Nichols Band Shell next to the South Umpqua River in Roseburg’s Stewart Park. Free, family friendly shows run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission to the public is free, thanks to a long list of business, foundation and individual sponsors. This year, eight concerts will be presented.
*June 23: John Jorgenson will feature gypsy jazz, world music, bluegrass, rock and more.
*June 30: Amelia Day will play folk, rock and pop blending storytelling, raw delivery and unforgettable melodies.
*July 7: Paul McDonald, an American singer-songwriter playing rock. He finished 8th on season then of American Idol.
*July 14: Jujuba is a world music group playing a funky, danceable style of Nigerian Afrobeat and Juju music.
*July 21: Garrett T. Willie has a deep gravel-soaked voice and plays blues and rock.
*July 28: Glitterfox is from Portland, playing rock, new wave, and southern Americana tunes with a dancefloor pulse.
August 4: Jackie Venson has been heralded as one of “Austin’s rising stars” by Rolling Stone Magazine and plays Texas blues, electro-funk and rock.
*August 11: March Fourth Marching Band: is out of Portland. They are a costumed psychedelic punk rock-marching band circus troupe with dancers, acrobatics and more.
Along with the music, food trucks and vendors have meals for sale, or concert goers can bring their own dinner, including wine or beer.
