The Glide Veterans Memorial will hold its annual Memorial Day tribute on Monday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m.
The memorial is co-located with the Glide Community Center on North Umpqua Highway in Glide.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the 2001 dedication of the Glide Veterans Memorial. The tribute will remember and honor all the Americans over the past 250 years who died while serving in the military. Additionally, this year’s theme is military actions across the middle east of the past 35 years – from Operation Desert Storm in 1991 to the present ongoing Operation Epic Fury. The lives of the ten Douglas County service members who were killed in action while serving in Middle East operations will be remembered and honored.
This year’s guest of honor will be Douglas County native, State Representative Virgle Osborne.
Since last year’s tribute, twenty-six new veteran’s bricks have been added to the Glide Veterans Memorial walls. Attendees are invited to tour the memorial and visit the concurrent displays.
The memorial’s red brick wall features the names of 510 Douglas County veterans.
