A local church has begun work to “Extend the Table” and make room for more growth.

Last week, Redeemer’s Fellowship in Roseburg broke ground to construct a new 13,000 square foot structure that will be attached to the church’s existing main building, at the corner of West Harvard Avenue and Lookingglass Road. Phase 1 of the project will be an auditorium to seat approximately 900 people. That is double the capacity of their current auditorium. Phase 2 will be to renovate 10,000 square feet of the existing building, creating additional children’s classrooms, a larger plaza for gathering, and additional multi-use space. The total project cost is estimated to be $4.25 million.

Redeemer’s Director of Operations Caleb Stevens said the church has maxed out its current space due to growth in the last few years. Lead Pastor Billy Reider said the project isn’t ultimately about buildings or numbers. Reider said, “It’s about people. It’s about creating room for the next family who walks in, and the next student looking for hope”

Redeemer’s renovated the current building, a former Moose Lodge, approximately twenty years ago. It later purchased a former church to the south of the property on Lookingglass Road, with that building now housing the church offices. In 2014, Redeemer’s purchased the former Harvard Avenue Cinemas, west of the main property. The building is used as the church’s youth center, for Celebrate Recovery meetings, and other gatherings. The non-denominational church began in 1983 and met for over twenty years in a building on Southeast Main Street downtown.

Construction fencing now marks off the site of the new building, which will be made of steel, to match the existing structure. It will be the second largest auditorium in the area, behind Jacoby Auditorium at Umpqua Community College. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed by late 2026 or early in 2027. Roseburg company Guion Randol is the contractor for the project.
