The Roseburg City Council will have first reading of an ordinance relating to federal immigration enforcement and Oregon’s sanctuary laws, as part of its meeting on Monday night.
Councilors recently asked staff to prepare an ordinance adding a new section to Roseburg Municipal Code to codify compliance with Oregon’s status as a sanctuary state. The ordinance says that the City of Roseburg is a welcoming community that values the dignity and safety of all persons.
A resolution will be voted on to make annual fee adjustments for city services.
Other items are on the agenda.
Mayor Larry Rich will proclaim May 17th through 23rd as Emergency Medical Services Week and National Public Works Week.
The regular meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers on Southeast Douglas Avenue. A special meeting at 6:00 p.m. will be held to review the city manager recruitment brochure and to vote on approving it and beginning to advertise for a new city manager as soon as possible. City Manager Nikki Messenger is scheduled to retire at the end of June.
The city council meetings can be seen on the city’s Facebook page or viewed later at: www.roseburgor.gov.
