EUGENE RESIDENT DIES IN VEHICLE/PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT

A Eugene resident died in a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Saturday night.

An Oregon State Police report said just before 11:00 p.m. troopers responded to the crash on Oregon 42 near Grant Smith Road in the Green District.

The preliminary investigation indicated that a compact car operated by a Roseburg man was traveling westbound with a green light on Highway 42 when it struck the pedestrian, identified as 40-year-old Vivian Kuntz. Kuntz was crossing from Grant Smith Road towards the highway without a signal to walk.

Kuntz was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle and a passenger were not injured. The highway was impacted for four hours during the on-scene investigation.

OSP was assisted by Central Douglas Fire and Rescue, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Winston Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
