Umpqua Valley Arts will host a special exhibition panel on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm. for their current exhibit- Art as Record: Minidoka.
The exhibition is a collection of art and objects that were made or used in camp, along with other cultural and historically relevant pieces. Attendees of the panel will get to learn more about the history of Minidoka and other concentration camps active during that time, the exhibit itself, life in camp and the generational effect this historical event had on Japanese Americans. Speakers will include Joni Kimoto- who was incarcerated at Minidoka, Sandra Honda – a Japanese American visual artist and descendant of people incarcerated in multiple camps, and Ashley Cluver – UVA Exhibition Coordinator and curator of the exhibit.
The event is free to attend.
