Chris Dudley announced his candidacy for Oregon Governor on Monday.

The former Portland Trail Blazer is making his second run for the office. In 2010, Dudley came within one percentage point of beating Democrat John Kitzhaber for governor. Losing by only 22,000 votes, it was the closest gubernatorial race in Oregon’s history.

In his campaign announcement, Dudley said, “I have traveled around the state and met with people who’ve shared a variety of opinions, stories and challenges. Yet what I have found to be most encouraging is why I’m standing here today. What they all have in common is a love of our great state and a desire for these same things: quality education, safety, affordability and a good job”. Dudley said, “These are achievable. There are real solutions, and I have a plan. That’s why I’m asking you today to stand up for Oregon and stand with me as I announce my candidacy for Governor of our great state. Together, we can create a better Oregon for all.”

Dudley, now a wealth management advisor, will face two prominent state lawmakers and a county commissioner in the race which has now attracted 14 candidates who are all hoping to capture the Republican nomination and face incumbent Governor Tina Kotek in November. State Senator Christine Drazan has been campaigning for months, while State Representative Ed Diehl announced his candidacy last week. Marion County Commissioner Danielle Bethell filed for the seat in September.
