Roseburg Police jailed a man following an alleged theft of a firearm on Wednesday afternoon.

An RPD report said at 3:50 p.m. officers responded to a business in the 400 block of Northeast Stephens Street regarding a male who allegedly stole the loaded weapon from a vehicle in the parking lot. Employees advised that the suspect went to The Point in the 200 block of Northeast Pine Street after the theft and was last seen wearing neon green shorts.

Officers spoke to numerous people at The Point who advised that the male went toward the walking bridge near the intersection of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard and Northeast Stephens Street. Officers reviewed video from the store and recognized the man as 34-year-old Alan Hubschman. Hubschman was located inside a tent on the walking bridge and was detained without incident. Inside the tent was his neon green shorts with the stolen firearm under them. Officers also learned that Hubschman shot the firearm near the train trestle on Northeast Rowe Street. A spent shell casing was located.

When Hubschman was transported to corrections, he attempted to spit on the officer after exiting the back seat. Hubschman was charged with first-degree theft, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a firearm, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, and attempting to commit a Class C felony. He was detained without bail.
