Roseburg’s Neewollah Parade is back this Friday night for Halloween.
A city release said the event is believed to be the longest-running Neewollah Parade in the country. Roseburg began the tradition in 1933 when Neewollah – which is Halloween spelled backward – was a national phenomenon. The city has held it nearly every year since – aside from a few years during World War II and two years during the COVID-19 pandemic, when virtual parades and costume contests were held instead.
As kids are gathering candy from downtown businesses, a group of 8 to 10 Roseburg Area Dancing Witches will perform to a variety of songs including Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.
Friday’s parade will begin near Roseburg City Hall on Southeast Douglas Avenue at 5:00 p.m. Costumed tricksters can begin gathering at 4:30 p.m. on Southeast Jackson Street
