September 5, 2025 3:50 a.m.

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association continued active lightning reconnaissance on Thursday, using all air, ground, and camera resources to monitor and survey the district for lightning-caused fires.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said of the two initial fires reported Thursday morning, one additional lightning struck tree fire was identified.

Pope said out of the 76 registered lightning strikes across the district Wednesday night into early Thursday, DFPA crews responded to 15 smoke investigations. Three fires were confirmed:

*Burg Mountain Fire – Located near the 16000 block of Dixonville Road, a single lightning-struck tree

*Tyee Mountain Fire – Located near Umpqua, 1 mile north of Tyee Road, estimated to be between 0.25 and 1 acre in size

*Brushy Butte Fire – Located 8 miles southeast of Roseburg, this fire is estimated to be 0.02 acres

All fires are 100 percent lined and mopped up.

Pope said reconnaissance across the district will continue for several more days.

On the Dads Creek Fire near Glendale, minimal precipitation fell over the fire area during Wednesday night’s storm and there was no lightning impact on the area. A total of 119 firefighters and overhead command remain assigned to the fire and have completed mop-up within 250 feet of the perimeter, increasing containment to 80 percent.
