Roseburg Police jailed a man for a criminal count of prohibited camping, depositing trash within 100 yards of a waterway, having prohibited weapons and tools on city property and for a warrant on Monday.

An RPD report said at 9:00 a.m. while conducting a security check at Deer Creek Park in the 200 block of Southeast Pine Street, an officer observed the 58-year-old man camping in a restricted area and near the South Umpqua River. His camp was in disarray and there was trash and clutter all around the camp. He was not in compliance with the time, place and manner guidelines. The man had two prior convictions, with his last one being on June 6th.

The man was found to have a chainsaw and a hatchet in his camp, which is a violation. Dispatch informed the officer that the man had an active warrant out of the Coos Bay Police Department. The warrant was confirmed, and the man was taken into custody without incident. The man was detained on $17,500 bail.
