A Drain man was jailed following an overnight motorcycle pursuit early Thursday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 12:25 a.m. a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Interstate southbound near the Drain/Elkton exit. The motorcycle merged onto Highway 38 and increased its speed to over 100 miles per hour. The deputy activated his siren, and the motorcycle continued to travel at the same speeds. The pursuit continued to the intersection of Highway 38 and Upper Smith River Road. At that time, the motorcycle was maintaining its high speed but was failing to maintain its lane. The driver started to lose their balance and finally yielded to the deputy.
The rider was identified as 35-year-old Chad Brinkerhoff and was placed into custody. He showed signs of impairment and allegedly performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests. Brinkerhoff was transported for breath samples. His blood alcohol level registered 0.14. He was charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving. Brinkerhoff was detained without bail.
