Roseburg Police jailed a man following a hit and run incident on Tuesday morning.
An RPD report said just after 11:35 a.m. an SUV and a pickup were traveling south in the area of the 1500 block of Southeast Pine Street. The pickup was in the right-hand lane and made a left turn from that lane in front of the SUV, causing a collision. The SUV did not stop immediately and parked a block away.
The occupants of the SUV returned to the area of the crash but indicated that the female passenger was the driver. The SUV’s actual driver, a 32-year-old man from Portland, left the area again without identifying himself and provided no information to the driver of the pickup. A passerby reported seeing the SUV driven by a man at the time of the crash. The woman was confronted with this information and admitted that the man had been the driver. He returned to the area and was taken into custody.
Both the driver and the passenger in the pickup were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for apparent minor injuries. The SUV’s driver was charged with a felony count of failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons. He was detained without bail. His passenger was cited for hindering prosecution. The pickup’s driver, an 80-year-old Central Point man, was cited for improperly executed left turn.
