Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Tom Kress, and Chris Boice issued a proclamation at their weekly business meeting on Wednesday, calling upon citizens of the county to observe Thursday, June 12th as Women Veterans Day.

A county release said Women Veterans Day is celebrated each year across the nation, and Douglas County was the first county in Oregon to celebrate the newly established Oregon holiday which began in 2019. Douglas County is home to over 1,600 women veterans – which is the fastest growing segment of the veteran population in the United States.
