Sutherlin Police jailed a man on weapons charges and for a felony probation violation warrant from the U.S. Marshals Service on Wednesday night.

An SPD report said at 8:45 p.m. 43-year-old John Valero was taken into custody for the warrant in the 700 block of Hastings Avenue. During a search of the man’s person, a fixed blade knife approximately four inches long was reportedly found hidden in his pants pocket and was not visible to the naked eye. Valero had a backpack which allegedly had an AR-15 inside and two loaded magazines.

He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and for the warrant. Valero was detained without bail.
