ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL MAN FOR REPORTED ASSAULT INCIDENT

Roseburg Police jailed a man for a reported assault incident on Friday night.

An RPD report said at 11:15 p.m. officers responded to a business in the 3100 block of Northwest Aviation Drive, after a front desk employee said that a man, later identified as 54-year-old Herculano Gonzalez, struck another man in the head with a hammer. Multiple individuals on scene allegedly witnessed Gonzalez commit the crime and then put the hammer back in his truck before returning to his motel room.

Gonzalez was contacted in his room and taken into custody. The hammer was recovered from his vehicle. The victim refused medical care when from EMS personnel when they arrived on the scene.

Gonzalez was charged with second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and second-degree disorderly conduct. He was detained without bail.
