A Roseburg man was jailed following an alleged assault incident early Tuesday morning.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 4:25 a.m. a deputy responded to the 1100 block of Ridge Avenue, just north of Roseburg, for a possible disturbance. A caller reported waking up to a loud scream from a neighboring residence. A second person went outside to see the victim walking away from the suspect and then allegedly saw the suspect punch the victim in the back of the head.
The report said the suspect and a different person were having an argument over a vape, which led to yelling and the victim then confronted the suspect. The suspect and the victim reportedly wrestled around in the living room of the residence then went outside where they allegedly traded punches.
Based on the investigation, the deputy determined that the suspect was the aggressor who caused substantial pain to the victim and took him into custody. The 51-year-old man was charged with fourth-degree assault and second-degree disorderly conduct. He was detained without bail.
