A Reedsport teen was taken to the hospital following a single vehicle accident on Wednesday.

A Douglas County Sherriff’s Office report said at 11:20 a.m. the 16-year-old male was driving home from a friend’s house when his vehicle went off the road in the 3900 block of Lower Smith River Road in the Reedsport area.

The SUV struck a tree, then rolled down an approximately 50-foot embankment. There is no roadside shoulder at that location. The report said it appeared that the passenger tire got off the pavement and pulled the car into a glancing blow from one tree, then head on into another before tumbling down the embankment.

The juvenile was transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport by ambulance.
