DAN BAIN NAMED MALE FIRST CITIZEN AT CHAMBER BANQUET

Dan Bain was named the male First Citizen of 2024 at the Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce 70th annual awards dinner and meeting of its membership on Thursday night.

An estimated 80 residents gathered for the event, held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

RACC Board Chair Jami Seal made the announcement regarding Bain’s honor. Seal said Bain has been described as a treasure, caring and generous with his time, and a local “icon”. She noted that it has been said, there has never been heard an unkind word about the honoree. Over the years, Bain has volunteered with the Douglas County Cancer Services and the Community Cancer Center, Roseburg Rescue Mission and American Legion baseball. He has also helped with the Festival of Lights, a local adopt-a-street clean-up program and the Miss Douglas County Pageant. Bain has served on the board of the Josh Bidwell Foundation and is a member of the Roseburg Rotary Club.

Bain’s career included 15 years at KQEN Radio, 20 years at KPIC-TV, four years in public relations and several years at The News Review. He continues to work part-time, broadcasting Sutherlin High School football and basketball on the radio.

The female First Citizen of the Year was not announced but will be named at a chamber event in April.

The chamber awards also honored three local businesses:

*Girardet Wine Cellar was named Small Business of the Year

*Sunrise Enterprises was selected as Medium-Size Business of the Year

*Umpqua Dairy was honored as Large Business of the Year
