Roseburg Police jailed a man Wednesday for a prior stolen vehicle incident.
An RPD report said on January 5th, a Jeep Wrangler was stolen from the Douglas Residential Training Facility on West Harrison Street. On January 8th, 32-year-old Christian Sherman allegedly traded the stolen Jeep to a White City man in return for a Honda Civic. The transaction reportedly took place in Curtin.
The man who purchased the vehicle became suspicious of the trade afterward and spoke to law enforcement, who determined that the Jeep was stolen. The buyer reportedly messaged Sherman numerous times, asking him to return the Honda, but Sherman allegedly did not message him back.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office recovered the Jeep on Tuesday. Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Sherman was detained at Roseburg High School on West Harvard Avenue. Once in custody, Sherman admitted to being in possession of the Jeep for a couple of days but traded it for the Honda for fuel economy reasons.
Sherman was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and first-degree theft by deception. He was detained without bail.
