Firefighters with the Roseburg Fire Department responded to a house fire on Wednesday night.

Information from RFD said just before 10:00 p.m. dispatchers reported a fire in the 4400 block of Northeast Stephens Street. Homeowners said they could smell smoke inside the house and were hearing a crackling sound under the residence. Firefighters arrived on scene and found the single-family structure with occupants outside the home, attempting to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the south side of the residential structure. Crews located fire under both the structure and inside the exterior wall of the residence. The fire was quickly extinguished, and overhaul was completed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Thirteen personnel assisted with firefighting operations. Other agencies assisting with the fire included Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Roseburg Police Department, Avista Utilities and Pacific Power.
